in Toulouse, the Toulibeo network shows growing interest in electric vehicles
On the occasion of its 4th anniversary, Toulibeo looks back over its history and the development of electric mobility in Toulouse. In just a few years, this public on-street charging service has established itself as a key player in the local energy transition. This symbolic milestone provides an opportunity both to review the progress made and to outline the prospects for future mobility in the metropolis.
Electric mobility becomes part of everyday life in Toulouse
Launched in 2021, Toulibeo has since established itself as the first private operator of public street charging in the metropolitan area. Spearheaded by Bouygues Energies & Services, an Equans France entity, in partnership with Banque des Territoires, as part of a 15-year contract with Toulouse Métropole, the project has made it possible to build a genuine public service for electric charging, with a clear ambition: to facilitate and democratize the use of electric vehicles for Toulousans .
With 68 stations and almost 270 charging points deployed in Toulouse, Colomiers and several surrounding towns, Toulibeo caters for a variety of uses:
- Destination charging (in the city center),
- Fast recharging (on the main roads in the urban area),
- And ultra-fast charging (on the outskirts for long-distance journeys).
A local model that inspires other regions
Toulibeo is not just a metropolitan player: it is also the precursor of Elinvest, an initiative supported by Equans, Banque des Territoires and TIIC to accelerate the deployment of electric mobility among local authorities such as major French conurbations and energy associations.
This model, developed and tested in Toulouse, is now being rolled out in other regions, with the aim of creating robust IRVE networks tailored to local conditions. The current network has been designed to adapt to growth in demand, with the possibility of expansion, vigilance against the risk of saturation, and a controlled growth strategy that guarantees quality of service over time
By 2030, Toulibeo is aiming for 582 million decarbonized kilometers, representing an estimated saving of 52,000 tons of CO₂ on a metropolitan scale.
Toulibeo's success is based on close collaboration with the metropolis and its elected representatives, which has enabled us to install the charging stations in the right places and meet the needs of users. This success confirms our ambitions with Elinvest: to support other French cities in the development of electric mobility," explains Guillaume Male, Director of the Elinvest program.
