Portrait of Mouzakirr, apprentice overhead-underground electrician, and Fabien, his team leader and tutor.
What is your background and how did you come to work for Equans France?
Mouzakirr: "I arrived in France 5 years ago. I learned the language, got my driving license and took a CAP in electricity, before joining the GEIQ training program a year ago, to become an aero-underground electrician fitter."
Fabien: "I joined Bouygues Energies & Services at the age of 18 to complete my apprenticeship in electrical engineering. I worked on overhead networks, which is what I prefer, and underground. I became a team leader in January 2026."
Mouzakirr, can you tell us more about the aero-underground electrician training course?
"It's a qualifying, sandwich course, run in partnership with GEIQ and AFPA. In a year and a half, we learn to install and maintain electrical networks. Once we graduate, we have the opportunity to join the company."
Fabien, what has this tutoring experience brought you?
"It's a very rewarding course, both for the apprentices and the tutors. It allows us to go back to basics and break out of our habits. Personally, I like taking the time to pass on my knowledge. It's important for the future of our professions."
What do you love most about your job?
Mouzakirr: "It's a very complete job, with a wide range of techniques. Of course, I also really enjoy working at heights and outdoors. We work on a different site every day, and we have to adapt to it."
Fabien: "Working at heights. I did eight years of climbing when I was younger. I also like to think about the positioning of pulleys, the angle of lines and the location of poles. It's a job that's essential to the development of connected, sustainable territories where life is good."
Mouzakirr, what would you say to someone hesitating to take the plunge?
"I'd tell him to go for it, give it a try. If he likes outdoor work, construction equipment, lines and isn't afraid of heights. It's a useful job, when we intervene after a climatic hazard, we enable households to have electricity again for lighting, heating, etc."
Any final words?
Fabien: "One day, we were working on a site on a Sunday morning. Although he wasn't mobilized, Mouzakirr invited the whole team to lunch at his place after the intervention, with our families. We help each other on a daily basis, including in our personal lives."
