The Battery Market
The Battery Market
The Market in a Few Figures
By 2040, 70% of vehicles sold in Europe, across all segments (cars, trucks, buses), will be electric. As for the global battery market, it could reach 45 billion euros as early as 2027 (30% of which will be in Europe), according to estimates by the consulting firm BCG. In other words, the electric mobility market is riding a wave of momentum, driven by a strong commitment to offering increasingly clean and carbon-free mobility.
The European automotive battery market is estimated to reach approximately 400 GWh by 2030.
Europe is making the shift to electric mobility
Eager to support a local industry, Europe—which until now has had a limited presence in this high-potential market—is investing heavily in the electromobility sector. In fact, the European Commission gave the green light last year for the creation of a massive “Airbus” of batteries.
Endorsed by seven member states (Germany, Belgium, Finland, France, Italy, Poland, and Sweden), this colossal project—worth approximately 6 billion euros—calls for the construction of 20 to 30 gigafactories on European soil.
Battery production in Europe is indeed a matter of great strategic importance, given the enormous potential of this still-emerging market.
Support for the Energy Transition
-
- The emergence of this new European industry addresses the challenges of the energy transition and helps achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050
-
-
- It ensures Europe's industrial independence in the design and production of batteries for electric cars. This key component accounts for about 40% of the vehicle's price.
-
-
- It contributes to the rise of clean, energy-efficient transportation by reducing the carbon footprint of vehicles.
-
What are the challenges facing manufacturers?
-
- Manage highly complex environments (anhydrous rooms with very low humidity levels) using the best equipment available.
-
-
- Manage explosive atmospheres (ATEX) and mitigate the associated risks, particularly during electrolyte production.
-
-
- Optimize installation costs using a low-carbon approach to reduce the energy footprint of buildings and operations.
-
-
- Control the plant’s energy costs through energy-efficient utility production.
-
-
- Facilitate equipment maintenance by incorporating best practices for operation into the design phase, thereby simplifying maintenance and improving equipment availability

A turnkey project
A dedicated team and a single point of contact ensure coordination among the various trades and the group’s different subsidiaries. The integration of BIM at every stage of the project allows us to manage the entire lifecycle of the installed equipment, right through to its obsolescence. The digital model provides 3D monitoring of all on-site installations and infrastructure. Finally, BIM ensures a shared, real-time view of the project, enhances coordination, and optimizes reporting processes.
To address energy efficiency and carbon footprint challenges, the teams at Equans France leverage existing resources and equipment to deliver a unique solution that secures energy consumption and optimizes manufacturers’ energy mix.
As a trusted partner to manufacturers, Equans France relies on an international network of experts who support and implement projects on a global scale. These professionals possess in-depth expertise to tailor solutions to international standards and expectations, and provide guidance on the legal, tax, and financial aspects of structuring these projects.
As a well-established and long-standing group, Equans enjoys a strong reputation among financial institutions and European authorities for raising funds. Benefit: You benefit not only from our brand reputation but also from our expertise in complex financial structures.
