Equans has expertise in the distribution and storage of electrolyte. Drawing on its expertise in materials chemistry, Equans has mastered the electrolyte distribution and storage chain. This process requires significant expertise given the extreme instability of this solvent when exposed to air.
The success of electric vehicles depends largely on the battery. It consists of an anode, a cathode, and… an electrolyte. Its role? To ensure the conductivity of lithium ions between the anode and the cathode to create an electrolysis reaction. This step is particularly delicate due to the electrolyte’s highly explosive and flammable nature. Highly unstable and dangerous, this solvent requires precise control over its distribution and must be stored in controlled-atmosphere (ATEX) facilities.
From drum storage cabinets to distribution control (via PLCs) to production equipment… Equans manages the entire distribution process from start to finish, a process that requires exceptional expertise. To ensure the circuit is completely leak-tight, the electrolyte flows through double-walled stainless steel pipes, with nitrogen circulating in the outer wall to detect leaks. This configuration protects not only the equipment but also the user, as the electrolyte must never come into contact with air, as this could cause an explosion.
