Hydrogen in the Ecological Transition
Hydrogen in the Ecological Transition
What is hydrogen?
Hydrogen is a key driver for the decarbonization of industry and regions, provided that this hydrogen is produced locally and sustainably.
Low-carbon hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels and significantly reduces the carbon footprint. Produced through water electrolysis, low-carbon hydrogen contributes to the energy transition in the industrial and mobility sectors. Furthermore, hydrogen is an energy source that also contributes to the creation of the fuel of the future.
Equans, a member of France Hydrogène, has been supporting stakeholders across the entire hydrogen sector for several years and helping to structure it, acting as an integrator, installer, and maintainer of production and distribution units.
France Hydrogène is a committee with more than 450 members that brings together stakeholders in the French hydrogen sector across the entire value chain, ranging from major industrial groups developing large-scale projects, SMEs and innovative startups supported by leading laboratories and research centers, associations, competitiveness clusters, and local governments committed to the deployment of hydrogen solutions.
France Hydrogen’s ambitious plan, implemented to achieve the goals of the energy transition, promotes the use of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen. This energy carrier is expected to significantly reduce emissions in the transportation sector, which is currently the largest emitter. The industrial sector is also involved by supplying industrial facilities with carbon-free energy and contributing to the decarbonization of industrial processes by replacing fossil fuels.
Equans supports you from design through implementation to maintenance
Design
Equans helps you design your project and supports you in:
● Concept and feasibility studies
● Preliminary design studies (pre-FEED)
● Design studies (FEED)
● Industrial risk analysis
● Assistance with permit applications and administrative filings
EPC Implementation
Equans offers a turnkey service for the construction of production and distribution facilities:
- Industrial hydrogen and mobility
- E-fuels: are produced from renewable electricity or low-carbon electricity, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen (in the case of e-ammonia); they offer a viable alternative solution for decarbonizing transportation and industry
- (E-methanol, e-methane, e-ammonia):
- E-methane: In its liquid form, e-methane can be blended with LNG (liquefied natural gas); in its gaseous form, it can serve the traditional uses of natural gas and be used in road and maritime transportation.
- E-methanol is produced on a small scale, primarily for the chemical industry, and is a promising fuel for the maritime sector.
- E-ammonia is a carbon-free fuel that is being closely studied by the maritime transport sector. E-ammonia also aims to decarbonize the production of chemical products (fertilizers, explosives).
We are also involved in hydrogen logistics management:
- Monitoring and optimization of electro-hydrogen power unit consumption
- Improving the carbon footprint and reducing noise pollution
Maintenance
Equans works alongside operators and equipment manufacturers to support the operation of their hydrogen equipment. Equans’ local teams are committed to ensuring the performance of these facilities through four levels of maintenance.
