Synthetic Fuels

What is synthetic fuel?
Synthetic fuels, or e-fuels, are produced from renewable (solar and wind) or decarbonized electricity, carbon dioxide or nitrogen in the case of e-ammonia, and hydrogen produced by electrolysis. This raw material sets them apart from biofuels, which are primarily produced from biomass.
They fully contribute to the decarbonization of transportation and industry by drastically reducing harmful emissions from engine combustion into the environment. Their carbon footprint is lower than that of petroleum-based fuels.
These fuels, also known as synthetic fuels or “e-fuels,” are part of the national low-carbon strategy aimed at decarbonizing maritime transport and promoting more sustainable aviation.
