Solar energy lights up the park in Villeneuve d'Ascq: a goal of 72% energy savings by 2025
The city of Villeneuve d’Ascq is continuing its energy transition with Equans. Following an initial contract that has already cut energy consumption in part of the streetlighting system in half, the city and Equans have begun renovating and optimizing the remaining infrastructure, this time with a target of 72% energy savings by 2025. Another new development is the installation of more than 100 100% self-sufficient solar-powered light poles in various neighborhoods throughout the city.
Energy Efficiency and Solar-Powered Street Lighting
These innovative installations offer a low-energy and cost-effective alternative to traditional street lighting. Villeneuve d'Ascq is committed to sustainability, with the renovation of 2,020 new streetlights to achieve 50% LED lighting by 2025.
Equipped with innovative technologies, the new streetlights will allow the brightness of each fixture to be adjusted as closely as possible to actual needs, based on foot traffic and hours of use, enabling the city to ensure the well-being of Villeneuve residents while reducing its energy costs.
The city of Villeneuve d’Ascq is continuing its energy and environmental transition through the renewal and expansion of its Global Public Performance Contract for street lighting with Equans. As part of a broader environmental policy—which recently earned us the title of “France’s best municipality for biodiversity”—we are confident of its success, given the results of the first contract. Gérard Caudron, Mayor of Villeneuve d’Ascq
