VIA Rail Selects Icomera to Equip Its New Train Fleet with a Digital Platform and Wi-Fi
A 10-year contract with VIA Rail Canada
The Icomera X5 connectivity and mobile applications router will be installed on VIA Rail’s new fleet. EQUANS, through its subsidiary Icomera, has signed a 10-year service contract with VIA Rail Canada (the national rail service provider).
An onboard Wi-Fi system and digital platform
As part of this initiative, Icomera will deploy an onboard Wi-Fi system that will provide passengers with a reliable, high-speed internet connection throughout their journey. Icomera will also help create an onboard digital platform for the new fleet of trains on the Quebec City–Windsor line. It will feature content from the VIA Rail website and real-time trip tracking.
Working closely with VIA Rail teams, the project will be led by Icomera’s Canadian division, spearheaded by the project management and technical services team in Mississauga and supported by the U.S. team. Delivery, installation, and testing will take place in Sacramento, California, and Montreal, Canada, to ensure optimal performance and above-standard availability. The first series of trains is scheduled to enter service in the fourth quarter of 2022.
