Inclusive Transportation: GoMedia in the Spotlight at Taiwan's National Museum of Science and Technology
GoMedia will showcase one of its most recent projects
GoMedia, a subsidiary of Icomera and EQUANS France, has been selected to showcase the applications and benefits of 5G connectivity to visitors at the Taiwan Science and Technology Museum. The digital company will showcase one of its latest projects there, which leverages this advanced technology to make British public transportation more accessible to the two million visually impaired people in the United Kingdom.
A digital innovation to make public transportation more accessible to people with disabilities
Based in London, GoMedia is a company that develops digital solutions to enable as many people as possible to use public transportation. Developed in partnership with the RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People), its digital innovation uses a visual recognition system to help people with disabilities access the information they need for their journey, whether at the station or while on the move.
In 2021, in collaboration with West Midlands 5G—a company funded by the West Midlands authorities and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport— GoMedia conducted an initial demonstration of its accessibility solution on the Metro Tram 35 line in the West Midlands, the UK’s first 5G tram.
Available on smartphones, GoMedia’s solution automatically recognizes any NaviLens BIDI code presented to it and connects to the real-time passenger information system via cellular networks or the onboard Icomera Wi-Fi. The reduced latency enabled by 5G plays a crucial role, as it increases the speed at which data is delivered to personal devices, thereby improving current location-based tools. The increased capacity of the 5G-compatible onboard Wi-Fi also allows passengers to stream richer, augmented reality (AR) location-based videos, even while the vehicle is in motion.
