Energy Performance Contract: Equans France Supports the Ministry of the Armed Forces
Equans is funding the planting of 734 poplar trees
As part of the energy performance contract for the Marescot barracks in Castelsarrasin, Equans has just funded the planting of 734 poplar trees in Verdun-sur-Garonne on a 3.6-hectare plot. This initiative, which benefits local biodiversity, will enable the Ministry of the Armed Forces, through a “Low Carbon” certification, to reduce the environmental footprint of this barracks in Tarn-et-Garonne, which has been home to the 31st Engineer Regiment for more than 50 years.
The Ministry of the Armed Forces is committed to restoring biodiversity and reducing its carbon footprint
Deeply committed to restoring biodiversity and reducing the carbon footprint of its properties, the Ministry of the Armed Forces prioritizes partnerships with local stakeholders. This is what led it, through Equans, to work with the GFA Saint Pierre, which manages 150 hectares of poplar trees in the Garonne Valley. A poplar grove had to be cut down prematurely due to the presence of insect pests, resulting in both economic and environmental losses. However, the poplar is a particularly effective species for sequestering carbon, largely due to its rapid growth.
