Bergen's iconic line will be equipped by Icomera and GoMedia

The Norwegian transportation operator Vy has selected Icomera and GoMedia, subsidiaries of EQUANS

Norwegian transportation operator Vy, one of the largest transportation groups in the Nordic region, has selected Icomera and GoMedia, subsidiaries of EQUANS, to provide Wi-Fi and entertainment services for the Bergen line. The Bergen line traverses the highlands between Norway’s two largest cities, Oslo and Bergen. While offering some of the most spectacular views in Europe, it nevertheless suffers from limited mobile phone coverage and capacity. Aware of these limitations, Vy embarked on a rigorous procurement process to meet its passengers’ expectations.

Begun in the spring of 2021, the installation work will be completed in December 2021 with the deployment of the Icomera and GoMedia solution in 72 Vy train cars.

Passenger Connectivity

Icomera’s Wi-Fi solution will offer passengers a faster and more reliable experience, thanks to the latest version of its SureWAN™ connectivity protocol, which connects Vy’s trains to cell towers along the Bergen line.

This Wi-Fi service will be complemented by GoMedia’s infotainment technology. Securely downloaded onto Icomera’s onboard hardware, it will not require an external Internet connection, freeing up more bandwidth for passengers using Wi-Fi for “digital tasks” (email, social media, etc.).
