ARF is involved in the decarbonization of Kem One's processes in Martigues
Kem One, one of the winners of the “Energy Efficiency and Process Decarbonization” initiative
Axima Réfrigération was selected by Kem One (a major player in PVC manufacturing in Europe) at its Martigues (13) site to retrofit the refrigeration unit, which earned Kem One a place among the winners of the “Energy Efficiency and Process Decarbonization” program operated by ADEME through France Relance.
An initiative that supports Kem One's goal of retrofitting its refrigeration units
The refrigeration unit is used to produce various temperature levels, ranging from -3°C to -38°C, for the CVM production facility—where chlorine is converted into vinyl chloride monomer—used in the production of PVC. In the ATEX zone, Axima Réfrigération will install a 4-stage centrifugal compressor capable of delivering three different temperature levels to meet the process requirements. More than 5 MW of cooling capacity will be available on-site with the implementation of propylene as a refrigerant with a low global warming potential (GWP = 2).
The environmental benefit is a reduction in emissions of 8,400 metric tons of CO2 equivalent per year, representing 5% of the site’s emissions. The project represents an investment of over 5 million euros, with delivery scheduled for early 2023. This initiative supports Kem One’s goal of retrofitting its refrigeration units across all its sites.
