Standardization in Support of the Energy Transition
A source substation is an electrical facility that connects the public electricity transmission grid to the public electricity distribution grid. It is used to step down very-high voltage to high voltage; to distribute electrical energy to several high-voltage networks, known as “feeder lines”; to transmit electrical energy throughout France while adapting to the varying needs of consumers. It therefore plays an essential role in the overall electrical system.
Pre-industrial express relay stations
To address the challenges of the energy transition—specifically, increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 40% by 2030—transmission and distribution networks are evolving. These changes are intended to enable the integration of renewable electricity generation while ensuring the safety and security of the power system, as well as the quality of power supply to consumers. These developments are characterized by the creation of standardized, factory-prefabricated solutions called “Postes Sources Express,” which reduce the construction time for a source substation.
INEO Postes & Centrales designs and develops buildings for ENEDIS’s “Postes Sources Express.” These are prefabricated buildings capable of housing either 11 to 12 high-voltage (HV) cells, the control and command center, or the energy workshops. These buildings are constructed in a factory with a precast concrete slab onto which a steel frame clad with steel sandwich panels is installed; the electrical equipment is also installed in these buildings at the factory. In parallel with this prefabrication, the concrete infrastructure is built on-site; the completed prefabricated building will be placed on this infrastructure on site. These pre-designed and standardized modules cut construction time in half and reduce the impact of unforeseen events on the project timeline, all of which allows for faster connection of renewable electricity generators.
- To this end, INEO Postes & Centrales has:
- 1 workshop measuring 4,190 m²
- 1 16-metric-ton overhead crane
- 1 facility dedicated to the assembly of prefabricated industrial buildings (using factory-cast concrete slabs)
- 1 production unit for control cabinets that can be integrated directly into the industrial buildings that house them
- 1 outdoor storage area of approximately 1,000 m² for the receipt of raw materials in a secure enclosure
- 1 store
- Trucks used for the logistics of transporting buildings
