AN AMBITIOUS PROJECT FOR SMART AND SUSTAINABLE STREET LIGHTING: EQUANS FRANCE IS COMMITTED TO REDUCING THE CITY'S STREET LIGHTING ENERGY CONSUMPTION

With a population of nearly 20,300, Beaune—located in Burgundy—is a city with a rich wine-growing and architectural heritage and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As part of its ambitious energy policy, the City of Beaune has launched a Global Performance Contract (GPC) aimed at modernizing street lighting and optimizing the associated electrical infrastructure. This contract was awarded following a competitive dialogue to a consortium led by Ineo Réseaux Nord Est (lead contractor), Ineo Infracom (a subsidiary of Equans France), and in a joint venture with Dalkia Electrotechnics Citelum (a subsidiary of the EDF Group).

An energy transition focused on innovation, efficiency, and sustainability

In response to energy and environmental challenges, the City of Beaune has identified three strategic priorities:

Achieve energy savings

Generate at least 43% in additional energy savings following the completion of public lighting projects.
A transition to 100% LED lighting, which is more efficient and energy-saving, and the integration of smart dimming to limit light pollution.

Optimizing equipment performance

Standardizing infrastructure to facilitate maintenance and optimize network management.
Modernization of overhead and underground networks and control cabinets.
Improvements to traffic lights, including audible signals for the visually impaired.

Enhancing the appeal
of the region

Modernize and harmonize urban lighting to enhance public spaces by renovating video projection kiosks and highlighting iconic sites.
Also ensure the maintenance of a 2-kilometer illuminated route, contributing to the city’s nighttime vibrancy.

To meet market demands, Equans and its partners have leveraged their multidisciplinary expertise through several approaches:

Managing
energy consumption

Conducting street-by-street studies to tailor the specifications of the new lighting fixtures. A phased replacement of 3,600 light fixtures with LED technology and pre-wiring for the future integration of remote management systems.

Work in
9 areas of activity

Modernization and renovation of electrical infrastructure, as well as maintenance of video surveillance and traffic light systems. This also includes managing festive lighting, with the installation and removal of holiday decorations and upgrading electrical systems for major events (24 Heures Beaunoises, Vente des Vins).

End-to-end support

Local operational oversight is provided by the teams that won the bid. Coordination with local stakeholders is essential to ensure optimal responsiveness, as well as detailed planning with key milestones to ensure the project’s success.
