Renewables: A Dozen Major Real Estate Players Are Accelerating the Deployment of Renewable Energy in Their Buildings
At the Low-Carbon Real Estate Fair (SIBCA), major players in the real estate sector are committing to developing local renewable and recovered energy sources in both existing buildings and future projects. This collective initiative, launched by Equans, Contrast-e, and A4MT—and whose membership is expected to grow rapidly—brings together major players: Aire Nouvelle, Altarea, BNP Paribas Real Estate, Covea Immobilier, Crédit Agricole Immobilier Corporate et Promotion, Equans, Espaces Ferroviaires, Icade, La Poste Immobilier, Linkcity, Société de la Tour Eiffel, as well as the Observatory for Sustainable Real Estate (OID) and the French Institute for Building Performance (IFPEB). This initiative, called the “ENR&R Booster,” is supported by ADEME, which will contribute to its rollout and national impact.
For more than forty years, the decarbonization of the real estate sector has relied primarily on phasing out the use of heating oil and coal in favor of natural gas and electricity. Recent and ongoing international crises (notably the war in Ukraine) have significantly altered perceptions of current and future challenges. The transition away from fossil fuels and issues of energy sovereignty have become a priority for public policy and a strategic issue for market players.
