Equans Process Solutions and Técnicas Reunidas Join Forces for Elyse Energy’s eM-Rhône Project
Equans France, through its subsidiary Equans Process Solutions, announces its partnership with the global engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas to submit a joint EPC bid for the eM-Rhône project, developed by Elyse Energy at the Roches-Roussillon chemical complex (Isère). The eM-Rhône project aims to deploy an industrial production facility capable of producing 150,000 metric tons of e-methanol per year and is currently in the advanced engineering (FEED) phase.
Initiated by Técnicas Reunidas in September 2025, Equans Process Solutions is joining the preliminary studies to contribute to project management and ensure compliance with French standards. Técnicas Reunidas’ expertise in large-scale projects is combined with that of Equans Process Solutions to design an industrial site that is buildable, maintainable, and competitive.

As part of the FEED phase, Equans Process Solutions will be involved from the design stage to incorporate the construction and operational challenges of the industrial site. The goal is to take into account all of Elyse Energy’s needs and constraints in order to propose a design that meets regulatory, industrial, and environmental requirements while also being sustainable and maintainable over the long term.
In addition, Equans Process Solutions will help identify design optimizations aimed at improving economic performance and mitigating risks during the project’s execution phase, drawing on its specific expertise in cutting-edge industries and its knowledge of the French market.
Técnicas Reunidas will contribute its expertise as an international engineering firm to lead the engineering structuring, ensure the technical consistency of the entire project, and strengthen the robustness of the proposal.
This FEED phase represents a decisive milestone: it transforms the industrial vision into a robust and realistic design that ensures safe construction and operating conditions, provides reliable cost and schedule estimates, and strengthens the project’s credibility among all stakeholders.
“Equans Process Solutions is proud to partner with Técnicas Reunidas to support Elyse Energy during this key phase of scaling up to industrial levels. Our know-how and expertise are combined to develop a custom-designed solution ahead of the construction and operation of these future units in France. We are taking concrete action to promote sustainable engineering and demonstrate the potential of e-fuels as catalysts for decarbonizing our economy,” said Yves Nussbaum, CEO of Equans Process Solutions.
Following the FEED phase, Equans Process Solutions and Técnicas Reunidas intend to submit a joint EPC bid for the construction phase.
eM-Rhône, an e-methanol project supporting the chemical industry and maritime transport
Located at the Roches-Roussillon chemical complex, managed by GIE OSRIS, the eM Rhône project, developed by Elyse Energy, aims to produce 150,000 metric tons of e-methanol annually, intended primarily for the chemical industry and maritime transport. eM-Rhône is part of an effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, addressing the challenges of energy sovereignty and reindustrialization, in a context where France remains heavily dependent on hydrocarbon imports.
Supported by 115 million euros from the European Innovation Fund and located along the Mediterranean-Rhône-Saône corridor, the full development of the plant will require a total investment estimated at over 700 million euros, with a final decision expected by the end of this year.
The project, which was also praised at the most recent Choose France summit, ranks among the most advanced European initiatives in the field of industrial decarbonization.
