Health and Safety Week at Equans: Breaking Out of the Routine to Achieve Zero Serious Accidents
What is Health and Safety Week at Equans?
Every year, Health and Safety Week at Equans is a time for sharing, discussion, and taking a break with colleagues to focus on best practices and safe habits to adopt on our job sites. It’s also an opportunity for everyone to review the fundamentals of workplace health and safety and to take a step back and reflect on our daily routines.
One goal: ZERO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS
This year, from October 5 to 9, we focused on “workSmart”—or how to work more efficiently by:
- The widespread implementation of operating procedures, from the simplest to the most complex,
- Using the right equipment for the right task at the right time,
- Or even the essential daily pre-start meeting.
At the kickoff of our health and safety week, all our employees were able to attend the lecture by Biliana Todorova, Ph.D. in Science and neuroscience expert, who taught us how to outsmart the brain’s tricks through feedback and by exploring cognitive biases. We did this through workshops focused on the five most common biases in our work, helping us become aware of them and understand how to counter them: STOP, shared vigilance, the “stop minute,” and more.
And, because we need to switch off autopilot to avoid the brain’s traps, “we don’t monitor each other, but we look out for one another.”
