A successful move for the City of Le Breuil: following the successful renovation of its streetlight system, the municipality is turning its attention to sports!
Conducted between June 2020 and May 2021, the energy-saving upgrades carried out on the 825 light fixtures in the City of Le Breuil (71) exceeded expectations. While the initial commitment by Ineo Réseaux Est, a subsidiary of Equans France, was to maintain a minimum of 65% energy savings over 11 years (following the work) compared to the defined annual baseline consumption, the results for 2022 confirm a reduction of nearly 81%. Building on these savings—which have enabled the city to cope with rising energy prices without increasing its budget or eliminating nighttime lighting—the City of Le Breuil is launching a new project aimed at creating a smarter and more sustainable city: the renovation of its sports lighting by the end of 2023.
The sites involved in this project are the city’s two stadiums, its indoor and outdoor tennis courts, and the pétanque court. In total, Ineo Réseaux Est will oversee the conversion of 45 floodlights to LED, reducing the power required to light these sites by more than one-third. A control box will be installed at one of the city’s stadiums, allowing the lighting power to be reduced to 50% when the sports facilities are used for training sessions and restored to 100% during matches—all with the push of a button. The related work will begin this summer and will be carried out as part of the comprehensive energy performance contract signed by the City of Le Breuil and Ineo Réseaux Est in 2020.
Economy and Security for the City of Le Breuil
With a public lighting system that had become outdated and energy-intensive, the City of Le Breuil turned to Ineo in 2020 to renovate and optimize its facilities under a 12-year Energy Performance Contract. Estimated at 436,449 kWh of electricity at the start of the contract, the municipality’s annual street lighting consumption has dropped to 84,787 kWh—a savings of 80.5%—following photometric studies and subsequent work carried out by Ineo’s teams. If sustained, this performance could not only allow the City to recoup the cost of the work within 9 years but also generate approximately 500,000 euros in additional savings by 2032*. From an environmental perspective, the reduced energy consumption would also prevent the emission of 232 metric tons of CO2, equivalent to 232 flights from Paris to New York.
