Jules Horowitz Reactor (RJH): Construction of an experimental reactor addressing a key scientific and technological challenge
Location: Cadarache (13)
Project completion year : 2016
Duration: 8 years

The Issues
The Issues
The RJH—the Jules Horowitz Reactor, an experimental water-cooled, pool-type reactor with a neutron power of 100 MW—is primarily intended to conduct:
• high-neutron-flux irradiation experiments aimed at improving or qualifying materials and fuels for current and future reactors;
• applications for industry, medicine, or research, including, in particular, the production of significant quantities of radioisotopes for medical use, thereby addressing public health challenges. -
Solutions
Solutions
• A solution developed in collaboration with partners who are experts in their fields (radiation protection and networking) to provide a comprehensive offering;
• Design, engineering, and implementation of the RJH radiation detection system, consisting of three subsystems: ambient and chimney radiation monitoring, dosimetric monitoring, and monitoring to ensure that personnel and equipment remain free of contamination;
• A technical solution, proposed with the support of a leading subcontractor in the field of radiation protection, ensuring the compatibility of the beacons with the monitoring systems of other CEA facilities.
