Sanofi: The Sisteron Plant, a Pilot Site for Energy Optimization
The Sanofi Group’s plant in Sisteron produces active pharmaceutical ingredients for drugs in various therapeutic areas. Operating 24 hours a day, this facility requires a continuous supply of energy year-round. How can we ensure the reliability of industrial cooling—which is essential to the plant’s manufacturing processes—while optimizing resources and reducing energy costs and environmental impact? To address these major energy challenges, Equans France was commissioned by the Sanofi Group for its Sisteron plant. This demanding challenge was met through a unique comprehensive multi-technical maintenance contract and the deployment of Equans France’s industrial expertise.
Toward Innovative, Greener, and More Energy-Efficient Production
To carry out this project, Equans France offered Sanofi a turnkey solution by assessing the site’s needs, building a new facility, and providing maintenance and performance guarantees for the Sisteron site.
The new production and distribution system implemented at the site is innovative in the pharmaceutical chemistry industry, as it uses a CO2-based refrigeration system that is significantly less polluting and energy-intensive than the refrigerants previously used.
This comprehensive partnership enables Sanofi to secure its operations by meeting the project’s objectives. As a pilot site for this technology, the Sisteron plant serves as a benchmark for the Sanofi Group.
