Ramatuelle: A solar power system installed on the roof of the Gérard-Philipe school complex to provide 100% renewable energy
This Friday, September 6, Roland Bruno, mayor of Ramatuelle, accompanied by teams from Ineo Réseaux—a division of Equans France—and Logabat Ingénierie, inaugurated the new photovoltaic power plant (CPV) installed on the roof of the Gérard-ᵉ-Philipe school complex. A landmark milestone under the Global Performance Contract (GPC) launched by the city in October 2023, the installation of this PV plant lays the foundation for the energy and ecological transition project envisioned and initiated by the municipality.
A 100% Self-Sufficient School Thanks to Solar Power!
Located in the heart of the village, on a designated historic site, the Gérard-Philipe Elementary School has become 100% self-sufficient in energy thanks to renovations completed this summer. Since the solar power generated exceeds the school building’s consumption, the surplus will be distributed to other nearby municipal buildings, such as City Hall. To optimize the work and share equipment, this solar power plant was also designed to power automated systems and street lighting as part of the village’s public space revitalization program. The public school was chosen because its structure is ideal for installing a solar power plant.
Thanks to its layout and the southeast-facing orientation of its roof, the elementary school is one of the buildings in the town best suited to achieving 100% self-consumption. A total of 156 panels, covering 298 m², have been installed on the roof and will eventually generate 46,665 kWh annually, at an estimated cost of €189,621.40 (excluding tax). For this project, the municipality opted for visual integration of the system by using terracotta-colored panels designed to blend seamlessly with the school’s roofschool and in compliance with the requirements of the Architectes des Bâtiments de France within the boundaries of the listed site. The work took place throughout the summer, during the school break. Emphasis was placed on using local contractors, with the installation of the photovoltaic panels having been partially carried out by local service providers.
