Keeping Our Cities Safe with Equans
Interview with Pascal Agostini, Director of Development at Ineo, Connected Cities and Regions.
What does it mean to make a city safe?
Ensuring a city’s safety is the responsibility of the government and local authorities. Other agencies are also involved, such as the national police, the municipal police, the fire department, and civil protection. The overall goal is to combat delinquency and organized crime to ensure the safety of people and property. To achieve this, we will provide them with tools that will save time and help them anticipate a number of crisis situations.
How do we manage the influx of new tourists to cities and beaches, or during major events? What does this mean for our teams?
During the summer, some communities see their population increase tenfold. For our teams, in our day-to-day work as system integrators, our task will be to keep the systems we deploy in operational condition. We have requirements regarding response times and service restoration for these communities, sometimes under 2 hours. We must be organized to ensure we have the necessary expertise to restore these services as quickly as possible and ensure that the systems are operational.
How do we anticipate trends in crime, terrorist attacks, and the security of pedestrian routes…?
What we can say is that we act as an integrator, and we must take the initiative and choose the right technologies to address these challenges. What’s also interesting is that we have experience in urban safety, drawing on 750 projects throughout France. This experience allows us to anticipate a number of situations and apply the proposals we’ve developed to various cities and local governments facing the same challenges and issues.
In conclusion, we must be proactive, select the right technical solutions, test them, and put them through their paces—particularly in our laboratories, which allow us to quickly assess the technology and successfully implement and deploy it for our customers.
