Portrait of Lucia, a work-study student in Industrial Engineering
What does your job involve?
“As an assistant project manager for industrial projects at Equans Process Solutions, I support my manager at every stage of the project—from the preparation phase through to monitoring execution—by helping to manage and coordinate the various stakeholders.
The biggest challenge for me is the human aspect: bringing together a diverse group of people, meeting a variety of expectations and challenges, and managing multiple constraints. It’s a position that offers a lot of learning opportunities!”
Why did you choose a career in industry?
“To be honest, I hadn’t considered working in the industry. My father suggested this path, thinking it might be a good fit for me. I gave it a try out of curiosity... and I don’t regret it!
Through my experiences, I’ve discovered a practical, dynamic, and highly sophisticated field. Contrary to popular belief, electrical engineering isn’t just about changing light bulbs at industrial sites!”
What do you like about your job?
“What I love most of all is the variety: I go from the field to the office, from technical work to interpersonal interactions, and every situation is a learning opportunity.
Working with different teams allows me to understand all the roles within Equans Process Solutions and to learn from everyone’s experiences.
The most rewarding part is seeing the project come to life right before my eyes. It’s very motivating and, above all, impressive.”
What message should we convey to women who want to break into the industry?
“The industry is much more open than people think. Although this sector has long been male-dominated, attitudes have changed, and women have a full place in it. You don’t have to prove yourself twice as much as a man—you just have to be yourself.
If some women are hesitant, I simply advise them to give it a try: through an internship, a work-study program, or an immersion experience. The industry is open to everyone, and you can have a wonderful career there.”
