Equans and Anaerobic Digestion in Gironde: A “Green” Energy Transition for Local Communities
Equans France is supporting the construction of two anaerobic digestion facilities for the company Changeons Notre Vision de l'Energie.
What is anaerobic digestion? It is a process of converting organic matter into biogas, a local and renewable energy source that contributes to the production of green energy. Organic waste is processed, thereby reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, and is recycled rather than landfilled. The substrate produced by anaerobic digestion is an excellent fertilizer for agriculture.
On this project, our teams—drawing on their complementary areas of expertise—are carrying out the technical work packages.
The Ineo teams are carrying out electrical power distribution work for the various process packages. The challenge is to keep the facility operational at all times in the event of a power outage, which is essential for the process once fermentation has begun. In addition, Ineo is installing fire safety and intrusion detection systems, including access control and video surveillance.
The Axima teams, for their part, are handling the production and distribution of heat as well as distribution for the anaerobic digestion process. The fermentation of organic matter is powered by the heat produced by the boiler room. A portion of the biogas is reused to fuel the boiler.
