An Additional CO2 Capture Unit in Poland - ACP Carbowil III
Based at an ammonia production site in Wloclawek, Poland, ACP—acquired by Air Products in 2018—captures raw CO2 for resale on the market. Our Equans teams helped commission two of the three CO2 recovery units in 2004 and again in 2018.
In early 2018, Air Products called on our teams to design, install, and commission a system for recovering and processing CO2 generated during ammonia production. Commissioned in late 2018, this third CO2 purification and liquefaction unit recovers up to 37.5 metric tons per hour of food-grade CO2. Thus, the CO2 entering the Equans facility is a gas mixture consisting of 98% contaminated CO2 and emerges as a liquid that is 99.9% pure.
This results in a potential recovery of 300,000 metric tons of CO2 per year with continuous production 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, meeting the growing demand for pure liquid CO2. This CO₂ is reintroduced into the CO₂ circular economy, notably for carbonated beverages, vegetable crops, and refrigeration and freezing systems.
This unit joins two previously installed production lines. Equans had already participated in the construction of the previous unit, with a capacity of 15 metric tons per hour, in 2004. Air Products renewed its trust in Equans 14 years later with this new 15 metric tons per hour facility, which incorporates more innovative technologies.
