Leroy Merlin is upgrading the lighting in 69 of its stores with more efficient and safer equipment from Equans
At a time when energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint have become imperative, the French retailer Leroy Merlin has chosen Ineo, a division of Equans France—a leader in the energy and services sector—to equip and optimize the exterior lighting of 69 of its stores with a 100% LED solution. This partnership illustrates the ambitious CSR initiative undertaken by the home improvement leader, which aims to “consume less and consume better” in order to achieve a 56% reduction in energy consumption across all its sites by 2030, compared to 2019. These targets exceed the 40% reduction threshold set by the Tertiary Eco-Energy Decree (DEET)!
60% energy savings for Leroy Merlin!
To significantly reduce light pollution, preserve biodiversity, and lower energy consumption, public and private entities are committed to reducing the environmental impact of their outdoor lighting. By signing this contract with Ineo, a subsidiary of Equans France, Leroy Merlin is focusing on “relamping” its fixtures to modernize its entire outdoor lighting system and thereby meet environmental requirements. This project, carried out by Ineo at 69 Leroy Merlin stores, will result in significant reductions in electricity consumption and a rapid return on investment. Ultimately, the retailer expects to achieve 60% energy savings—a result that exceeds initial expectations. Beyond simply switching from “conventional” lighting to LED lighting, the entire lighting system will be modernized. Drawing on its expertise, Ineo is deploying a modular and smart lighting system. This solution covers all traffic areas specific to the stores (parking lots, material yards, storage areas, store facades) and adapts based on the time of day and foot traffic to ensure the safety and comfort of employees and customers.
A fruitful collaboration, driven by shared values
Compliance with environmental standards and reducing energy consumption are the goals of this project, which brings together two French companies: Leroy Merlin and Ineo, both leaders in their respective fields. With a presence throughout France, the two companies share a strong national presence and a close connection to local communities. Another key similarity—and one of major importance to both companies—is compliance with safety regulations. A well-defined process is necessary to ensure that construction sites operate under optimal conditions. Several measures have therefore been implemented: communication regarding best practices to follow, the holding of a “pre-start meeting” before each on-site intervention, and a detailed risk analysis and assessment conducted in advance. The goal is to enable the completion of these outdoor lighting “relamping” projects while ensuring the safety and uninterrupted flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic during Leroy Merlin’s store hours.
By modernizing the outdoor lighting systems at a large number of our stores, we will ensure safe access to our locations for our customers and employees, while achieving a 60% energy savings. Combining safety, competitiveness, and environmental protection has become possible thanks to innovations in the industry, and we are proud to partner with Ineo to bring this vision to life! States Arnaud Berchon, Technical Director of Real Estate at Leroy Merlin France.
The signing of this nationwide contract for exterior lighting with a major retailer such as Leroy Merlin represents a true collective success, the result of the meticulous collaboration and coordination carried out by our network of offices throughout France over the past several months. We are proud to be taking concrete action to bring about the energy transition and the decarbonization of our daily lives by supporting the home improvement giant in the overhaul of the lighting systems in 69 of its stores. “Liêm Cao Thai, Regional Director for the North and East at Ineo, a division of Equans France, emphasizes.
