Equans France, Cityway, and Kuba are joining forces to simplify public transportation in the Oise department
The Oise Joint Public Transportation Authority (SMTCO) has selected Ineo Systrans—a subsidiary of Equans France—Cityway, and Kuba to sustain and enhance its Integrated Mobility Services System in the Oise (SISMO). Through this 12-year partnership, the 21 member municipalities of the SMTCO are taking a new step together to accelerate the development of sustainable mobility throughout the Oise department.
Interoperability: The Cornerstone of Tomorrow's Mobility
Strength in numbers! Since 2010, the deployed solution has combined a multimodal passenger information service (SIM) with an interoperable ticketing system shared by all public transit authorities in the Oise department. This enables passengers to travel easily throughout the entire region thanks to a shared information and ticketing system. Data collected on the various types of public transportation is also analyzed to improve the management and coordination of mobility in the department.
Following a competitive bidding process that concluded in mid-2021, the SMTCO selected the consortium of Equans, Cityway, and Kuba—operating through the dedicated project company Mobi-Oise—to enhance the solution by expanding the range of features available to users. Mobi-Oise is now responsible for the design, operation, and maintenance of mobility services in the Oise department through 2033.
Its scope of work includes the renewal and provision of IT hardware and systems for 21 local authorities, 16 operators, and 850 vehicles, including passenger information systems.
SISMO 2: A Tool for Improving Quality of Life in Local Communities
Beyond its advanced digital technologies, SISMO 2 is first and foremost intended to be a tool supporting the region’s environmental and digital transition. By continuously improving the interoperability of public transit and the passenger information system, the SMTCO aims to offer a modern, reliable, and sustainable alternative to private transportation. Based on cutting-edge technologies capable of integrating and processing data from increasingly complex networks, SISMO 2 helps improve the quality of life and air quality for the 825,000 residents of the Oise department.
As the first major innovation compared to its previous version, SISMO 2 will be equipped with Navineo’s SAEIV (Operations Support and Passenger Information System). Supplied by Equans, the consortium’s lead contractor during the construction and commissioning phases, this system will, among other things, enable the 16 SMTCO operators to coordinate and optimize their routes based on schedules and ridership levels. Thanks to its smart equipment and its software for real-time data collection, analysis, and processing, the Navineo SAEIV tracks the location of every vehicle in the network and ensures that information is instantly shared among drivers, the control center, and passengers. This facilitates the implementation of route adjustment operations when a breakdown or unforeseen event disrupts traffic. By July 2023, Equans teams will install display equipment (LED terminals, multimedia TFT screens, and signs) on board vehicles and at stations, as well as onboard computers, across all bus, minibus, and coach networks.
In other significant changes, SISMO 2 will benefit from a new ticketing system provided by KUBA. Cityway will complete the modernization of SISMO by upgrading its Multimodal Information System.
“Since 2010, the SMTCO has been pursuing an ambitious policy to promote the development of public transportation in the Oise department. Facilitating management and real-time information on a network of this scale is a challenge that our teams are proud to take on alongside Cityway and Kuba!” comments Baudouin Huon, CEO of Ineo Systrans, a subsidiary of Equans France.
“While SISMO 1.0 was a success—for passengers, transit authorities, and operators alike—SISMO 2.0 will be even more so! New technologies are a valuable ally in revolutionizing the appeal of public transit and making our travel more sustainable.” concludes Arnaud Dumontier, President of SMTCO.
