Equans France is carrying out the renovation of two key boiler rooms in the Strasbourg Centre Energies district heating network
An ambitious renovation project for two iconic boiler houses to ensure reliable, sustainable, and high-performance service to users of the Strasbourg Centre Energies district heating network, led by Réseau de Chaleur Urbain d’Alsace in partnership with ERAS, an Equans France subsidiary specializing in sustainable engineering and project management.
A Key Initiative to Improve the Reliability and Modernize the District Heating Network
The project is part of a strategic renovation of two boiler rooms located in Strasbourg, La Meinau and L’Esplanade, with the primary objectives of renovating the facilities, recovering waste heat from the Autonomous Port of Strasbourg’s Heating Network, and ensuring a reliable heat supply to users.
Led by ERAS, a firm specializing in sustainable engineering, the project encompasses all phases of engineering and project management, ensuring the completion of detailed studies across all technical disciplines involved in the project, the preparation of bid documents, and rigorous oversight of the execution of the work—carried out by partner contractors for all technical components of the project—to ensure the work is properly executed through to assistance with final acceptance.
The main objectives and constraints that ERAS had to take into account during the project are:
-
Carrying out the work while the site remained occupied
-
Improving service reliability, particularly during the winter months,
-
Facilitate technical interventions in the event of incidents,
-
Minimize the impact of temporary outages on users.
Thanks in particular to a more granular segmentation of the network, the project will enable better service continuity and increased responsiveness.
A broad and innovative scope of technical work
The mission entrusted to ERAS encompasses several major components at both production sites:
-
At the Esplanade site, ERAS is overseeing the project management for the comprehensive overhaul of the process, the replacement of the main boilers, and the creation of new interconnections with the low- and high-pressure networks.
The project also includes electrical upgrades and the implementation of an advanced monitoring system for precise control of the facility.
-
At the La Meinau site, ERAS is serving as the general contractor for work involving the creation of new interconnections with the low- and high-pressure networks, increasing the power of the generator set, installing new generators, and modifying the thermal expansion, electrical distribution, and ventilation systems, thereby enhancing the overall robustness of the facilities.
These interdisciplinary projects combine thermal processes, general plant engineering, civil engineering, steel structures, instrumentation, automation, monitoring, and risk and operational feasibility analyses.
ERAS’s comprehensive approach ensures compliance with scheduling, operational, and environmental requirements throughout the project, from engineering to facility delivery.
This three-year rollout is a concrete example of Equans France’s commitment to the energy transition and the performance of urban infrastructure, serving local governments and citizens.
And that’s not all—through its new brand, Equans Process Solutions, Equans France is also committed to supporting the industrial transition toward more sustainable growth.
