Equans is rolling out its new intelligent transportation system (ITS) in Portland and the surrounding area

Equans, in collaboration with Optibus, has been selected by the Greater Portland Transit District (GPTD), in Portland, Maine, to deploy a new Operations Support and Passenger Information System (SAEIV), Automatic Passenger Counting (APC), and planning and replacement of the timing system. This partnership will bring significant improvements to Greater Portland Metro, which is Maine’s largest public transit system.

Greater Portland Metro operates a fixed-route bus service in the Greater Portland area of southern Maine. The metro system comprises 9 local lines and 1 express line, 44 buses, and approximately 70 bus operators.

The new platform will consist of Equans’ NAVINEO computer-aided dispatching and automatic vehicle tracking system (AVL) from Equans and Optibus planning software, thereby creating a fully unified platform that uses industry-standard integrations and minimizes the need for manual data entry.
